The Online Teaching Academy is a certified professional development programme that equips participants with the theoretical and practical tools required to design an effective online or blended learning experience based on sound learning-design principles, best practices and trends.

This programme is delivered by leading experts in the field who will help you move beyond the crisis to deliver high-quality online learning.

Participants will learn about the value and opportunities of an online environment and how to become effective online instructors. This represents a significant opportunity for any faculty interested in orientating themselves in the online learning space who are looking to keep up with the rapidly-evolving market and explore current trends and innovations.

Target Group:

  • Faculty and early-career researchers with some experience in online learning or teaching interested in designing an effective online course which goes beyond videoconferencing
  • Learning design professionals with a basic knowledge of online learning design who are interested in understanding the wider landscape of teaching online at a higher education institution, updating and increasing their level of understanding

Dates and Venue:

20 – 24 May 2024: Online preparation

27 – 29 May 2024: Face to face at Católica Lisbon School of Business and Economics, Portugal with a possibility to attend live online (hybrid format; please note that the number of online participants is limited).

Learning outcomes:

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:


  • Articulate the advantages of online education to support student’s academic and professional development
  • Compare and contrast different models of online and blended learning
  • Identify the key challenges in online and blended learning and discuss strategies for potential solutions as well as identify tools that can be used to face these challenges
  • Reflect on how to use learning analytics to gather insights into learner behaviour
  • Learn about the different resources that are at their disposal when designing and delivering an online course


  • Design a blended or an online learning experience based on sound learning design principles, best practices and trends (including synchronous and asynchronous teaching)
  • Create rich and holistic interactive experiences to engage students and enhance learning
  • Apply different methods and tools to support online learners including: videoconferences and case discussions, videos, assessments, discussion boards, feedback, interactions, learning analytics, etc.
  • Design formative and summative assessments, using a range of technology and tools suitable for online learning

This is a highly-interactive and practical programme. You will work in teams to redesign a pre-existing face-to-face course into an online or blended provision.

Format: Online (one week: 5 hours of asynchronous work and one live online session of 90 minutes)

Tuition fees

Early Bird offer for registrations until 19 April 2024 (included):

EFMD member: EUR 2.000

Non-member: EUR 2.500

Regular fee as of 20 April 2024

EFMD member: EUR 2.400

Non-member: EUR 2.900

The fee is payable prior to the programme by bank transfer/ credit card.

! A special discount on the applicable fee is available for every second and further participant coming from the same institution, as well as for institutions whose representatives have already participated in previous editions of the programme. Should that be your case, please contact Marketa Dvorackova prior to your registration.

Please note that the registration deadline is the 13 May 2024. 

Information concerning VAT

Please note that the above mentioned fees are without VAT.

VAT for onsite participation: 23 % PT VAT. Portuguese participants subjected to the VAT in Portugal do not pay the VAT.

VAT for online participation: Fees without VAT for all participants, except for Belgium and European participants non-subject to the VAT in their country, who will have to pay 21% Belgian VAT.

Cancellation policy

Cancellation must be confirmed in writing before 20 April 2024. A cancellation fee of EUR 100.00 (plus VAT if applicable) will be charged if cancellation is confirmed before 20 April 2024.

After the above mentioned date, we are unable to refund any fees. However, in such cases, substitutes are welcome at no extra cost as long as we receive notification of the name, title and address of the substitute.


Accommodation expenses are not included in the tuition fee.
