We invite Career Services professionals from EFMD schools worldwide to join us online this fall for a 1.5-hour Coffee with Careers session. We will discuss and reflect on best practices and emerging trends in Career Services. We try to make our sessions interactive, so be prepared to participate actively.
This year’s topic is The Mind Behind Career Choices: Motivation and Mindfulness.
We will connect with our community of career services professionals to explore two topics:
This session explores mindfulness as one way of supporting career professionals and the people they advise. Rather than approaching mindfulness only as a well-being practice, the session will consider how it may contribute to clarity, resilience, relationship-building, better judgment, and the more effective use of both people skills and technical skills. It will invite participants to reflect on how mindfulness can support professional practice in a world of increasing complexity, pressure, and technological change.
Motivation tells us what we will repeatedly choose to do, even when nobody is watching. Over decades, that repeated attention becomes expertise, meaning, and career satisfaction. The session would explore how understanding students’ underlying motivational architecture can help career professionals identify careers that are not only achievable, but sustainable over the long term. Drawing on contemporary personality psychology, motivational science and practical examples from career counselling, I hope to provide participants with a framework and a set of questions that they can immediately apply in their own conversations with students.
After both presentations, there will be space for your questions.
Career Services professionals from business schools.
This session will be run using Zoom. For Zoom to work best, we recommend downloading the latest version of Zoom Client for Meetings. If you are not familiar with Zoom, please make sure to connect 15 minutes before the meeting. You can test the tool via this website.
