Ever felt your learners should be more engaged?

Teaching in the Digital era means dealing with impatient, overwhelmed and distracted students on a daily basis. The methods of learning keep transforming and the learner attention spans seem to gradually shorten. Consequently, traditional teaching methods are becoming less effective, posing a challenge for educators to reflect the changes and adjust.

This online version of a 1-2 day intensive workshop, led by Rob Alvarez, founder of Professor Game podcast, focuses on creating a learning solution using lessons from games, the most engaging medium to date.

Gamification builds on the psychology of human engagement and capitalizes on the exciting, motivating and engaging strategies and design ideas from games. Applied in the educational context, it transforms attitudes towards learning as it can create an immersive, entertaining experience. Such a hands-on approach helps students to connect with their learning and thus improves concentration, effort, determination to succeed or overall knowledge retention.

This workshop will focus on five steps every educator can take to gamify the student learning experience. These five steps have derived from interactions with over 100 experts through the Professor Game Podcast as well as two decades of experience with interactive learning materials at IE Business School in Madrid.

Course Outline:

This workshop will be delivered entirely online and participants will have the opportunity to explore gamification as a way to create a learner experience, get hands-on with it, deliver a prototype and receive feedback to be able to apply the newly gained insights effectively.

There will be three live sessions, in between these, participants will be working asynchronously in teams on a project which will be central to their learning process through the application of the five steps in gamification.

Target Group:

This online workshop is designed for professors and learning professionals as well as programme directors and designers, interested in incorporating new methods to increase student’s engagement and performance levels.

Programme Fees:

  • EFMD Member fee: 350 €
  • Non-member fee: 500 €
