Session 2 : Managing the resources of your business school
In this session, we will look primarily at income and expenses of the various activities that business schools can offer and discuss what could constitute an appropriate mix. We will also look at how resources differ between standalone business schools and business schools that are within a university setting. In that context, we will also explore how the role of the Dean is context specific and what rights and responsibilities they have in different institutions.

Session 3 : Transitionning to dean
The role of Dean offers great professional and personal rewards. The role also presents great challenges. Moving from any role within a business school to the Dean’s Office introduces a dramatic increase in the array of stakeholders, oversight and activities. The demands and conflicting priorities requires the vision, courage, judgment and wisdom to make important decisions, while maintaining an open and transparent manner of communication and respect for diverse perspectives. This session will explore what it means to enter the role of Dean, to know the school you will lead, and to know yourself as the leader, and as an individual.

Session 4: Managing a broad(er) set of external stakeholders
One of the challenges newly appointed deans face is the management of a much larger set of stakeholders than they have had to do so far. Internal stakeholders, but also and particularly external ones. Deans cannot consider this stakeholder management as a distraction from their “main job”. Arguably, for many of us, this external stakeholder management is a big part of the job! This session will give us an opportunity to discuss your experiences so far and to hear from Jean-François Manzoni on his experiences at the helm of the International Institute for Management Development (IMD).
