Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport (BUD) is about 10 miles from the city center. Many major European and North American airlines either fly directly to Budapest or offer connections.

To get to the city/airport, you can take advantage of minibuses, trains, taxis and public transport. Find out more.

Getting around Budapest is equally easy with its mass transit system or simply in a taxi. Find out more and consult maps, download apps and much more.

Budapest Taxis

Taxis can be hailed on the street, but it is cheaper to call ahead of time. Residents in Budapest rarely flag down taxis in the street and our advice is to always call one of the recommended companies.

The following are the phone numbers of reliable taxi firms charging fair rates, not 'tourist tariffs' (operators are English-speaking).

Citytaxi: (+36-1) 211-1111

Főtaxi: (+36-1) 222-2222 - the officially appointed taxi company to service the airport

Budataxi: (+36-1) 233-3333

Tele5 taxi: (+36-1) 355-5555

Rádiótaxi: (+36-1) 377-7777

Social programme

Quality Assurance Academy participants are cordially invited to join the networking dinners on Wednesday, 11 December and Thursday, 12 December. Those attending the supplementary Report Writing Workshop are equally invited to join the dinner on Friday, 13 December.

A group activity to learn more about Budapest is also planned for Thursday, 12 December.

Further information will be provided soon.

Citizens of the EU/EEA member states and some other countries may travel to Hungary without a visa and may stay there for a maximum of 90 days. As of 2007, Hungary is also part of the Schengen Area. More information here.

More information on entry for foreigners to Hungary may be found at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Consular Services site.

Winter in Budapest is variable and unpredictable, and December is no exception. While it's cold, December is also snowy with storms sometimes bringing up to 15 inches of precipitation in a single day.

  • Average high: 3 °C
  • Average low: -1 °C

If you find moderate cold invigorating and light snow like a glistening frosting on the city, you will love Budapest in December.
