The Quality Assurance Academy is a comprehensive programme for business schools’ quality assurance professionals. It focuses on developing leadership competencies and managerial skills to meet the diverse professional challenges encountered daily in quality assurance/quality management (QA/QM) work in business schools.
The QAA cuts across all major quality assurance frameworks to develop and refine the participants’ understanding of the underlying methodologies and their purpose. Therefore, it is seen as a general qualification opportunity rather than training to support a specific accreditation project. The QAA is offered to the EFMD members and the wider business school community.
Any quality assurance professional, either currently employed or in between jobs. The design has been built around the needs of business schools, but professionals filling similar roles on the university level or in other faculties are most welcome to apply as well. No restrictions have been set regarding seniority and experience, but the typical applicant will have up to three years of QA-specific experience.
The QAA represents a unique opportunity to develop the competencies necessary to lead and manage a quality assurance agenda of a business school with international ambitions while being cognisant of national/cultural constraints. The offer is built around key skills a quality assurance professional should have, in addition to deep insights into the mechanics of delivering management education.
Specifically, participants will improve and enhance their capacity:
After successfully completing the programme, participants will receive the “Certified Quality Assurance Professional” certificate from EFMD Global. It will serve as a professional distinction, signalling the bearer’s qualification to conduct quality assurance work in tertiary education.
Graduation is based on two intermediate assessments: the capstone assessment and the overall point score received.
STRUCTURE OF THE PROGRAMME
The QAA consists of three block weeks, each of which includes two modules of four hours (five hours including breaks) and one extra module the week after. It emphasises leadership training with insights into strategy and change management techniques (Modules 1 and 6) as well as core quality management skills with a focus on analysing the writing process and communication with a look at rankings (Modules 2 and 5). The programme is complemented by training sessions in project management (Module 3) and data/information management (Module 4), with a newly added module about crisis management.
Each block week will require approximately a half-day of preparatory work. Participants will need to invest the same amount of time in completing the intermediate assessments after block weeks one and two. The capstone assessment after block week three will involve approximately two days of work and will be customised around a current professional challenge the participant is facing.
This workshop will be run using Zoom. For Zoom to work best, we recommend downloading the latest version of Zoom Client for Meetings. If you are not familiar with Zoom, please make sure to connect 15 minutes before the meeting. You can test the tool via this website.

Introduction Week 1 (Modules 1 & 2)
The first week of the QAA focuses on what it means to be a leader in the Quality Assurance space—this means leading people as well as the accreditation process. Each module has its specific learning outcomes and builds on shared practices, approaches, and benchmarking with peers to support innovation and success.
10:00-15:00 CEST Module 1: Empowered Leadership for Quality Assurance
This module goes behind the tools and techniques that quality managers use to drive continuous quality improvement in their schools. It explores the leadership skills that empower QAA professionals in their roles and help make quality assurance a highly effective means for achieving operational and strategic excellence in their schools. Leadership skills also enable us to bring purpose and meaning to what we do.
This opening module of the programme will explore the softer skills that facilitate leadership of the institutional quality assurance agenda. It will help participants to unpack what it means to “lead’ as a quality manager and explore how their role fits into the wider leadership grid of their schools. The module will also reinforce the role of leadership in the quality manager’s toolbox and support participants in looking at ways to help those they lead to understand the greater purpose, the “why” of what they do.
10:00-15:00 CEST MODULE 2: Positioning a Business School for Success: Structuring your School’s Accreditation Journey and Story
Building on the first module in which leadership sets the tone for an organisation’s culture and drives its commitment to quality and continuous improvement, Module 2 provides a strategic and systematic approach to leading your business school’s accreditation journey, whether initial or for re-accreditation, and maintaining clear, consistent communication across all phases of the accreditation journey. It focuses on designing a framework to craft a persuasive, data-informed institutional continuous improvement narrative that meets accreditation standards, sustains stakeholder engagement over time, and positions your school’s distinctive value to key audiences, including prospective and current students, faculty, alumni, community partners, accreditation bodies, and donors. Participants will explore practical tools, best practices, and the power of AI to contextualise and leverage accreditation requirements, structure the key phases of project communication, craft a unified and focused narrative, and integrate external accreditation feedback into actionable plans and strategies to guide improvements.
13:00-15:00 CEST Round-tables 2
Meeting with your mentee group and mentor to prepare for the upcoming Week 2 live sessions and discuss the pre-work.
10:00-15:00 CEST Module 3 Mastering the Double Hurdle: Managing Projects Successfully AND Managing Successful Projects!
Quality assurance work requires professionals to manage multiple projects, often in parallel and with synergetic links in terms of people, required skills, data, etc. While they often refer to them as projects, they execute them as semi-structured activities that are only loosely defined in terms of responsibilities, expected outcomes, and performance measurement. This leads to a lack of execution discipline, explaining why many projects deliver disappointing results or even fail in the end.
This module provides hands-on training on state-of-the-art techniques that help participants overcome these challenges. It involves the development of robust project plans, the assembly and managing of project teams (not all belonging to the quality assurance department), the alignment of schedules, the assessment of risks (budget and deadline overruns, avoidance of execution jams) and, most importantly, the effective communication of project goals, milestones and outcomes.
The module will tackle some of the common challenges of managing quality assurance projects, such as lacking due diligence to confirm project feasibility (e.g., gap analysis in accreditation projects), scope creep as quality assurance professionals are “shooting at a moving (school) target,” and conflict management within cross-departmental project teams.
Participants will also be able to familiarise themselves with state-of-the-art AI tools to enhance their daily work productivity.
10:00-15:00 CEST Module 4 Data-Driven Quality Assurance in the AI Era
This interactive module equips QA professionals with the skills and mindset to harness data as a strategic asset for accreditation, rankings, and institutional improvement. Participants will tackle common challenges like fragmented systems and unclear data ownership, while exploring how to bridge gaps between QA, IT, and leadership as effective “data translators.”
Through live demonstrations and hands-on group activities, participants will experiment with AI tools to clean data, generate insights, and automate reporting. They will also familiarise themselves with the ethical considerations and data privacy practices essential for responsible AI use.
They will leave with practical tools, shared strategies, and renewed confidence to lead data-informed QA in today’s AI-driven environment.
* This module will require some pre-session work. It is designed to ease participants into real-world data messiness and prepare them for deeper engagement during the live session.
13:00-15:00 CEST Round-tables 3
Meeting with your mentee group and mentor to prepare for the upcoming Week 3 live sessions and discuss the pre-work.
10:00-15:00 CEST Module 5 Ranking
This workshop offers accreditation professionals and educational leaders a practical and comprehensive overview of business school rankings, focusing on their methodologies, strategic relevance, and the growing role of AI in shaping outcomes.
Participants will explore how to decode ranking criteria, use AI-powered tools for data analysis and competitive benchmarking, and develop actionable strategies to enhance institutional performance. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, the session shows how leadership, governance, and communication are key to embedding rankings strategy into a broader pursuit of academic excellence and long-term impact.
10:00-15:00 CEST Module 6 Leading and Managing the QA Agenda
The focus of this module is to contextualise the centrality of quality assurance within a framework of systemic relationships and emerging trends. Quality has internal, institutional, national, and international components covering both the right to practice and the recognition of quality through EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA, and other accreditations, as well as FT and national rankings. Numerous challenges arise for joint-ventures and joint-degrees, through online education, trans-national education, professional bodies, and through stackable degrees.
Using strategic management and change management techniques, this module seeks to position QA professionals at the heart of institutional thinking.
Participants will develop their insight and skills in:
– Understanding the role of QA in their own institution as well as in a variety of international comparators.
– Future-gazing to identify issues that will offer opportunities but also require policy decisions and potentially new processes.
– Actively using AI as an information tool, for market information, to aid learning, and also to create assessments that cannot be written by AI.
– Acquiring confidence in influencing strategic conversations and change initiatives.
10:00-15:00 CEST Module 7 Crisis Management
Crisis situations in quality assurance can emerge suddenly and require immediate, strategic responses that balance institutional integrity with stakeholder relationships. This module examines two critical crisis scenarios that QA professionals may encounter: (i) unexpected accreditation outcomes requiring remedial action and (ii) institutional restructuring posing a challenge to accreditation management and status.
The programme also includes an Oral defence and a Graduation ceremony in February (date to be confirmed)
Participants of the 2026 edition of QAA can benefit from a 10% discount on the fee for the 2027 EFMD Conference for Quality, Impact, and Accreditation Professionals.
