Internationalisation models are maturing with the emergence of several new organisational missions and forms. Traditional approaches to internationalisation are also giving way to new models and engagements focused on responsibility and societal impact.

  • How can we move our internationalisation strategies to align organisational needs with positive impact?
  • How can we respond to the combined forces of demographic shift and technology?
  • How can we navigate global insecurity and a state of perma-crisis?

This workshop tackles these critical questions and allows participants to re-think internationalisation strategies and practices in light of emerging industry models and new global imperatives. Your readiness for and contribution to Internationalisation 2.0 will be assessed using a mix of audit and planning tools, specifically focusing on such topics as sustainable internationalisation and international risk management. Discussing and exchanging with your peers will make an integral part of the workshop.

The workshop, co-facilitated by internationalisation experts Simon Mercado (ESCP Business School) and Julie Perrin-Halot, will feature contributions from several industry professionals and case studies from ESCP, GEM, UFP Barcelona School of Management and others.

Target group

This workshop will be especially relevant to professionals responsible for driving and implementing the internationalisation strategy of an institution – deans/directors/associate deans of internationalisation, external relations, or research centres; directors and heads of international offices. Knowing the strategy and having a say in it is a must.

Learning objectives

The programme will combine individual reflection and collective learning to help participants to:

  • Profile current international strategies – why do they exist, how are they implemented, and what are their outcomes
  • Understand the new factors impacting our internationalisation efforts
  • Re-think our internationalisation strategies and practices in light of emerging industry models and new global imperatives
  • Use a resource-based lens to examine different dimensions of our strategies in light of these different elements of change and plot road maps for moving forward
  • Understand and incorporate risk management to inform decision-making
  • Hear about best practices and new developments from colleagues who will contribute cases and seminar alumni who will give feedback on evolutions after attending last year’s seminar.
